Getting you up to date!

Its a while since I last updated you and I have lots to tell you so check out our Show results page and Diary page as well.

We only managed to breed one foal this year and he has now been weaned off his mother Tilly. He was named Cotebrook Suilven by one of our visitors. I have just sold Tilly to my son Matthew and her foal will be sold at the Wettenhall Foal Show on 17th October 2009 along with the one year old Vincent, who has not come up to standard. I will be judging the show on that day and believe the entry is the biggest they've had for years with about 80-90 entries.

Why don't you come along and watch?

Its at Southview Equestrian centre just 4 miles from Cotebrook and it starts at 9.30am. For further information see www.nwwshirefoal.org.uk

We have had 3 stallions at Cotebrook this year. Cotebrook King is back from Sweden after we sold him 2 years ago.
MacDhui has been busy with the ladies again this year and we hired Moorfield Ted in for the season and he will be staying here for 3 years and he has had a huge number of girl friends. We have mated over 40 mares in total and the vast majority have gone back with their various owners in foal.

Last month we made two new purchases that I am more than pleased about. The first one was the purchase of Moorfield Dora. I heard about her availability whilst I was judging at Haigh Show and I have made the decision to bring her to Cotebrook. Dora is 9 years old and is the full sister to Ted. That makes her the daughter of Charlie's full sister Victoria. Charlie was our tremendous Stallion, now deceased.

My second purchase was a colt foal bred by my old friend Brian Barham from Norfolk and his name is Acle Major ( not a very inspiring name Brian!) and I am so excited about the purchase as Major is tremendously well bred. I have investigated his lineage back 3-4 generations. He is a super purchase and I am very excited at his prospects as a Stallion, but that is perhaps 18 month away yet. Major has a dark leg at the front and rear and that is probably why he was sold and probably why nobody showed a lot of interest in buying him. That is my good fortune and everyone else's loss. Watch this space!!

Finally before I close let me tell you that within the next few weeks all the horses will be stabled for the winter, other than Beth, Spirit, possibly the 3 Stallions and Major, so why not pop along and see them close at hand without having to walk all the way around the fields. If you do visit us, please bring appropriate footwear and coats.

I look forward to welcoming you soon and am always available for a chat.
