Corporate/Training Day ...

• Our Shire Horse experience is usually for one or two people but we welcome corporate days at Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre.
• A great team building day can be planned to suit your
  requirements. Please contact us to find out more.
• People preparing to apply for the Shire Horse Society judging panel will find this experience invaluable.

Accommodation...
If you require accommodation, the Alvanley Arms Inn is right next door and also owned by us. When booked with a Shire Horse Experience Day we offer a special price of £120 for an overnight stay in our Shire Room with Table d' Hote Dinnerfor Two.

Need to know...

• On arrival at 10.00am you will be greeted at the centre'slakeside café for tea and toast and we will discuss what you will be doing for the rest of the day.
• Allow up to six hours for your visit. (10am - 4pm)
• Minimum age - 16 due to health and safety, and insurance reasons
• Fitness/Health - Participants should be in reasonable health and agile enough to lift and carry.
• Dress code - comfortable hard wearing outdoor clothing suitable for the time of year. Waterproofs if necessary.
  Wear sensible sturdy boots. We have wellies for loan.
• Available all year around on a pre booked basis, except for Sundays, bank holidays and show days (which vary)
• Where a single Shire Horse Experience is booked, an accompanying guest is given free admission to Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre with complimentary lunch.

Home of the internationally renowned Cotebrook Shire Horse Stud, owner Alistair King has been breeding prize-winning Shire's for nearly 40 years at the award-winning centre.

What's included...
Enjoy a fantastic day getting up close and personal with some of the biggest horses in the world! Be prepared for all weathers and to get you hands dirty.
Our aim is to give people the chance to get a taste for what life is like looking after and preparing some of our amazing Shire horses for the show ring. Your day can include everything from mucking out the stables and feeding the horses, to preparing for the show ring by washing the feathers and plaiting the mane.

Details for the day will vary depending on the weather and the stud farms needs.
Throughout your visit, centre owner and one of the country's most well respected breeder's, Alistair King will be on hand to guide you through the day.
Plus, visitors will be able to learn all about the history of these native horses, from their carrying of Knights into battle during the Middle Ages, to their near extinction in the 1950's with the introduction of the motor vehicle.
Various aspects of studwork will be explored, depending on
season, such as Stallion work, breedlines, scanning and foaling. You will also learn about the ideal confirmation of a Shire horse and what the show ring judge is looking for.
