About The Centre

Alistair and Janet King welcome you to Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre.

The Shire Horse is the largest breed of horse in the world and we invite you to meet our Stallions, Mares & Foals and learn about this fabulous Old English Breed from our friendly and informative staff who will be pleased to share their knowledge. We have up to 30 horses at any time for you to meet.

Here at Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre there are lots of things to see. As well as our magnificent heavy horses, we have a fantastic selection of British animals & birdlife both wild & domesticated including rare breeds.

This list changes from season to season as young are born and all of our wildlife has either been born in captivity or rescued while injured from the wild.

Nature Trail

A stroll around our nature trail takes about an hour where you can visit the horses further afield and see if you can spot the hidden wildlife.

Look Out For:
Swans - which return every year to nest
Heron - stands motionless at the side of the lake waiting for a passing fish
Moorhens - small & black, very shy. Look for them around the edges of the lake
Coots - Slightly larger than the Moorhen with a white crest
Canada Geese - nest on the Hollybush island every year
Wild Ducks - various types both permanent & passing visitors
Trout - approximately 200 from 2lb to 14lb in weight. Watch them jump out of the water to catch flies
Also spot the Fox earth & Badger sets and see if you can name the many different trees you will pass
