Amazing Animal Births Update

The birth of Cotebrook Sgurr Alasdair was filmed in May 2015 for the documentary "Amazing Animal Births” which was aired on ITV tonight (Monday 17th July 2017).

We thought we would share what has happened to Alasdair, Mum Cotebrook Loch Carron and Dad Moorfield Edward since filming finished.

Mum Carron is owner Alistair King’s favourite broodmare and the foal she had the year before Cotebrook Loch Anna has been crowned Supreme Female Champion at the Shire Horse Society National Show for two years running.  A feat that was achieved first in 2016 when Anna was just two years old.   Anna is full brother to Alasdair. Largest shire horse show in the world

Carron had another foal in 2016 Cotebrook Loch Loyal. Loyal is full sister to both Alasdair and Anna and we have really high hopes for Loyal in the show ring.  She has already performed well at the National Show, placing second in a very strong field.

Father Moorfield Edward, who was regarded as one of the greatest shire horse stallions in the world, sadly passed away in April 2016 at the grand old age of 24.  His legacy lives on though through his progeny, not just here at Cotebrook, but all over the world.

Alasdair is still with us at the centre, but as you can see from the pictures has done quite a bit of growing since filming! He is a great horse that will soon start his stallion duties.

Alasdair and Carron are two of around 20 horses at Cotebrook that visitors can get up close too.

If you would like to follow the progress of them as well as the other horses and wildlife at Cotebrook, follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and subscribe to our YouTube channel "Foal Watch” where we follow the mares in foal and even try to film the birth, so if you liked Amazing Animal Births, you will love this.
